Upon being referred to Talk for Change you will be contacted by a member of the team to arrange a triage assessment.

These are usually telephone appointments but we can see you at one of our clinics if this better suits your circumstances.

During the triage assessment we will review some questionnaires and ask you some routine questions regarding your mood. You will also be given the opportunity to explain your difficulties in your own words.

A follow-up will usually be arranged where we can discuss your options for treatment. This may be a course of treatment with Talk for Change or a referral to another service if this is more suitable at the time.


If you are suitable for a course of treatment with Talk for Change you will be offered one of a range of therapies which have been shown to work well with anxiety and low mood difficulties. These are typically Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or guided self-help interventions.

It is likely that you will be asked to begin with a workshop or online course. We offer these as they are known to be effective ways of supporting anxiety and low mood difficulties and can be accessed almost immediately.

Online Courses

Online courses are sometimes known as computerised CBT or digital therapies. 

These courses involve learning CBT skills and techniques using tailored online programmes with the support of a therapist.  Initially you would meet with a therapist to discuss your difficulties and learn how the programme works. Your therapist would then support you through the programme and review your progress at the end.
